Homelessness as it is

By Lyric Rogers

Homelessness isn’t fake, and it sure isn’t a small “insignificant” problem.

I was marked as “homeless” for the first four years of my life, and from the things my mom has told me, it’s not safe, and it’s no laughing matter. You can ask anyone that’s been there, or is there. It’s dangerous, and it’s not safe for anyone.

Imagine this. It’s a 90-degree day, you have no shelter, barely any food, and no water. If you’re lucky, you might find some. If not, you risk dehydration and heat exhaustion.

Now that you have some perspective, imagine that’s your whole life, every day of every week of every month, 365.

The homeless people of Minneapolis, and the whole United States, have nothing to help themselves back up besides a few small homeless shelters and programs.

What we need is countrywide. We need a countrywide, government-funded, homeless shelter and program.

The government has billions of dollars to use, so surely, we can get some for homeless people?

If they can spend millions of dollars ordering the police to push around some homeless people, why on Earth can’t they fix the problem, and in turn, make more money from taxes, and spend less on the police departments?

If you were the government, what would you do?
